Rising Rugby Star Aisea Tuisese Sets Sights on Skipper Cup Glory

Fijian rugby player Aisea Tuisese, currently part of the development squad for Fijian Drua, is eager to represent the Naitasiri team in the upcoming Skipper Cup this August. At just 20 years old, Tuisese showcased his talent by scoring two tries in the final of the Tara’s Supermarket Nausori 10s tournament, leading his team, Black Diamond, to a narrow victory over Natakali Sharks with a score of 17-15. His outstanding performance earned him the title of Best Player of the final.

Tuisese dedicated this victory to his late grandfather, Ratu Ilaitia Tuisese (Snr), a celebrated rugby figure who passed away in October last year. He comes from a rich rugby lineage; his father, Ilaitia Tuisese (Jnr), is a former Flying Fijian and now the head coach of Naitasiri, while his great-grandfather was also a player for the national team in the late 1940s.

Reflecting on his recent experience, Tuisese expressed gratitude for getting considerable game time, particularly since he was recently released from the Drua club to compete in the Nausori tournament. He acknowledged the rigorous training he undergoes as a development player, emphasizing the importance of practical playing experience.

Tuisese described the Skipper Cup as a significant stepping stone for rugby players transitioning from school to club level, providing essential exposure and experience necessary for competing at higher levels such as Super Rugby. He also spoke about the daily challenges he faces but remained optimistic, attributing his perseverance to the support from his family and friends.

As he prepares for the Skipper Cup, Tuisese is focused on making the most of his opportunities and hopes to continue inspiring young players looking to carve out their paths in rugby. His journey signifies the potential and passion found within Fijian rugby, highlighting the importance of familial support and dedication in pursuing athletic dreams.
