Rising Piles of Rubbish Spark Health Concerns in Narere Neighborhood

Residents of Yalu Street on Omkar Road in Narere have expressed their frustration with the Nasinu Town Council regarding the ongoing rubbish collection delays in their area. Many locals reported that rubbish has been accumulating since before the Diwali festival, leading to significant health and hygiene concerns.

A visit to the neighborhood revealed alarming piles of waste at the Yalu Street junction. Resident Ram Jeet highlighted the issue, stating, “These huge piles of rubbish are evidence that the council hasn’t collected the trash for an extended period.” He noted that collection efforts have primarily focused on household kitchen waste and that their requests for broader waste removal have gone unaddressed.

Another resident, Gaytri Sam, voiced her distress over the situation, stating that the foul odor from the rubbish is unbearable. She indicated that the accumulating waste has led to an increase in pests, including flies and rats, which poses a threat to her family’s health. “My grandchildren walk past that huge pile every day on their way to school, and they have fallen sick as well,” she lamented.

An anonymous neighbor added that the area has become a dumping ground for even those residing outside the community, compounding the problem. Meanwhile, the Nasinu Town Council has yet to respond to inquiries about the matter.

In previous statements, the council’s executive chairman, Felix Magnus, acknowledged the significant issue of illegal dumping in Nasinu, urging the government to implement stricter regulations to empower local councils against environmental violations.
