Two new cases of mpaisa theft have been reported in Labasa, according to police. In one incident, a 35-year-old woman from Namara is accused of unlawfully withdrawing $320 that was mistakenly sent by a member of the public in March. Authorities stated that the victim believed the payment was for a family friend who had requested financial assistance. However, after confirming with her friend that they had not asked for money, the victim filed a police report.

In a separate case, a 20-year-old man from Nabekavu faces charges for allegedly obtaining $200 under false pretenses. The victim reportedly sent the funds in response to a Facebook advertisement for a phone for sale. The suspect is said to have withdrawn the money and subsequently severed communication with the victim. Both individuals are expected to appear in Labasa Magistrates Court today.
