After years of dedicated effort and sacrifice, Reeya Nitasha Prasad is ready to launch her promising legal career. Currently, she is pursuing a professional diploma in legal practice (PDLP), marking the start of an exciting new chapter.
A proud alumna of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School, Ms. Prasad was raised in a vibrant extended family, which fostered a strong sense of community and belonging. Growing up alongside her younger brother Aarav and numerous cousins instilled in her the warmth of a large family setting. “My upbringing was an enriching experience, shaped by the unique dynamic of living amongst my extended family,” she shared. Ms. Prasad believes this environment allowed her to grasp a wide spectrum of perspectives while nurturing empathy and adaptability—skills that have been essential throughout her academic journey.
With a long-standing ambition to be a lawyer, her pursuit of justice is paralleled by her aspiration for academia. Inspired by her father, a PhD candidate in biology who teaches at university, and her fiancé, an assistant instructor pursuing his master’s in engineering, Ms. Prasad has also developed a passion for lecturing. “Their dedication to education has greatly influenced my secondary ambition to share knowledge and inspire future generations,” she reflected.
Transitioning to tertiary education posed challenges for Ms. Prasad, compelling her to expand her horizons and cultivate independence and resilience. “The rigorous academic environment pushed me beyond my previous expectations,” she mentioned, expressing deep gratitude towards her parents and friends for their unwavering support, which has been pivotal to her achievements.
In her leisure time, Ms. Prasad engages in activities that promote relaxation and intellectual growth. “I find joy in reading, listening to music, and watching films, all while seeking to learn something new,” she noted, indicating that these pursuits are crucial for maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
Looking five years ahead, she envisions herself equipped with a master’s degree and a strong reputation as a competent and impactful lawyer. “My goal is to become an expert in my field, contributing significantly to my firm and the legal community,” she asserted, highlighting her commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
For those entering the legal profession, Ms. Prasad suggests gaining early internship experience in a legal firm or department. “I’ve seen numerous classmates change paths after recognizing the intimate and demanding nature of this profession,” she cautioned, emphasizing that practical experience is transformative. Her own internship at Kumar Goundar Lawyers was instrumental in building her confidence and readiness to tackle future challenges head-on.
Ms. Prasad’s journey not only embodies personal ambition but also mirrors the stories of many young aspirants in the legal field, who, like Shyyal Kumar, have also faced significant challenges and are now fulfilling their legal ambitions. This collective determination is a testament to the spirit of resilience that defines aspiring lawyers, providing hope and inspiration for others who dream of making their mark in the legal landscape.
