One such story is that of Esther Lusiana Kuva, the head girl and dux of Nakasi High School, who dedicated her remarkable achievements to her late mother.
At just 18 years old, Esther, originally from Korovisilou Village in Serua, found herself overwhelmed with emotion as she was announced the dux of her school. Last year, she lost her mother to bone cancer, a devastating blow that deeply affected her and her three siblings. “It was quite hard for us,” Esther reflected, recalling the struggle to balance her studies with her responsibilities as a student leader.
Despite the challenges she faced, Esther expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported her during her journey. She particularly thanked her aunt and uncle, who took them in during their difficult times, along with her grandmother for her unwavering support. “Although my mother isn’t here physically, I know she is with me spiritually,” she shared fondly.
Esther’s hard work paid off as she received multiple awards, including the prestigious dux award, Year 13 prize, and leadership recognition, among others. Her family, especially her 71-year-old grandmother, Ana Qitialewa, beamed with pride. Ms. Qitialewa noted Esther’s discipline, highlighting her dedication to education by waking up early and maintaining a strict routine.
Looking ahead, Esther plans to pursue a career in the medical field, weighing her options between nursing and dental care. She emphasizes the importance of sacrifice and dedication, encouraging others to prioritize their faith and rely on God.
