Rising from Defeat: Tailevu Naitasiri’s Young Stars Prepare for the Future

The Tailevu Naitasiri women’s football team faced a tough defeat, losing 15-0 to the formidable Ba women’s team in a Women’s Super League match held at the Fiji FA Vatuwaqa Academy ground today.

Head coach Elvis Goundar acknowledged the challenges his team faced, particularly the limited availability of senior players due to work commitments, which left many of the youth players to take on a more significant role in the match. “Most of our youth players are coming in for training as most of our senior players are occupied. We accept the defeat today as we had a young developing team challenging the experienced Ba team,” Goundar commented after the match.

The coaching staff is also tackling the added challenge of managing youth players simultaneously participating in the U-19 league and secondary school futsal competitions. Despite the setback, the Tailevu Naitasiri team remains optimistic as they prepare for their next match against Suva in the U-19 league, where they currently sit atop the standings with just one loss in the series.

This experience serves as a crucial learning opportunity for the young Tailevu Naitasiri squad, fostering growth and resilience as they navigate the competitive landscape of women’s football in Fiji. The potential within this team could shine in future matches, emphasizing the development of local talent and the importance of nurturing them as they confront more experienced teams.
