Parents should closely monitor their children’s smartphone and social media usage, according to Independent MP Rinesh Sharma.
During the budget debate last week, Mr. Sharma highlighted that youngsters are increasingly being exposed to dangerous drugs like methamphetamine, marijuana, and cocaine.
He noted incidents of violent and aggressive behavior among students, including fights in schools and bus stands, and even a case where a student punched a schoolteacher.
Mr. Sharma emphasized the need for increased parental responsibility.
“To safeguard and promote children’s health, education, development, and welfare, parents are urged to monitor their kids’ smartphone and social media usage,” he said.
Parents should stay informed about their children’s activities to avoid appearing in negative news, he warned.
Mr. Sharma called on the Attorney-General to examine laws concerning children’s use of social media.
“I urge the Government to restore discipline in our schools as it was in earlier times,” he added.
