Reports of mpaisa theft have increased, with two recent incidents occurring in Labasa. Authorities revealed that a 35-year-old woman residing in Namara, Labasa, is accused of wrongfully withdrawing $320 that was mistakenly sent to her in March by a member of the public. The investigation indicated that the victim believed the money was intended for a family friend who had requested assistance. However, upon confirming with that friend, the victim learned they had not made such a request, prompting her to report the incident to the police.

In a separate case, a 20-year-old man from Nabekavu faces a charge of obtaining financial advantage after allegedly dishonestly acquiring $200. The victim reportedly sent this amount in response to a Facebook advertisement for a cellphone. The suspect allegedly withdrew the funds and severed all communication with the victim. Both individuals involved in these cases are set to appear in Labasa Magistrates Court today.
