“Rising Boxer Jonathan Hill Eyes Title Shot with Next Fight”

Jonathan Hill is optimistic about extending his winning streak as he gears up for his second professional bout against Labasa’s Rupeni Rokoratu in next month’s South Pacific boxing promotion in Labasa.

“Preparation has been good and we’re always prepped, Winston (his younger brother) and I,” Hill said. “My approach in this fight is to knock out Rokoratu so I can get my ranking higher.”

Hill is aiming for a title fight, contingent on a victory over Rokoratu. “This is the first time for me to fight him (Rokoratu) and it’s almost like amateur boxing; we just go in and deal with it in the ring,” he said. “My motivation to win the fight will be my son.”

Hill mentioned that he did not study his opponent, focusing instead on refining his own abilities and strength. “It’s been good to have my younger brother Winston in my preparation, and I guess it makes my opponent wary of me,” he said. “It’ll also be my first time fighting in Labasa.”

Hill secured his first professional win in the super middleweight division against Donasio Macedru during the Lewis Hill boxing promotions at Vodafone Arena, Suva, last year. “I’m trying to improve my fitness in my preparation with the aim to win,” he said. “I was unfit in my last fight, but I got the job done.”

He added that his previous professional bout gave him valuable experience. “I will be gunning for the super middleweight title of Fiji after this fight and maybe the light heavyweight as well,” he said. “We’ll see whoever has the title; I’ll be going after them.”
