Jonathan Hill is maintaining a positive outlook as he prepares for his second professional fight against Labasa’s Rupeni Rokoratu in the South Pacific boxing promotion next month in Labasa.
“Preparation has been good, and we’re always ready, Winston (my younger brother) and I,” Hill said. “My goal in this fight is to knock out Rokoratu to improve my ranking.”
Hill aims for a title match, contingent upon his victory over Rokoratu. “This is my first time fighting Rokoratu, and it’s almost like amateur boxing where we just get in the ring and handle it,” he explained. “My son is my motivation to win this fight.”
Choosing not to study his opponent, Hill focuses on enhancing his own skills and strength. “Having my younger brother Winston involved in my preparation has been beneficial, and it might make my opponent cautious,” he noted. “It will also be my first time fighting in Labasa.”
Hill triumphed in his first professional fight in the super middleweight division against Donasio Macedru during the Lewis Hill boxing promotions at Vodafone Arena in Suva last year. “I’m working on improving my fitness with the aim to win,” he added. “I was unfit in my last fight, but I got the job done.”
Drawing experience from his previous bout, Hill is determined to pursue the super middleweight title of Fiji after this fight, and possibly the light heavyweight title as well. “We’ll see who holds the title; I’ll be going after them,” Hill stated.
