Jonathan Hill is looking to extend his winning streak with his second professional bout against Labasa’s Rupeni Rokoratu in the upcoming South Pacific boxing promotion in Labasa next month.
“Preparation has been good and we’re always prepped, Winston (his younger brother) and I,” Hill said. “My approach in this fight is to knock out Rokoratu so I can get my ranking higher.”
Hill is aiming for a title fight on the condition that he defeats Rokoratu. “This is the first time for me to fight him (Rokoratu) and it’s almost like amateur boxing; we just go in and deal with it in the ring,” he added. “My motivation to win the fight will be my son.”
Hill mentioned he did not study his opponent as he is focused on fine-tuning his own ability and strength. “It’s been good to have my younger brother Winston in my preparation, and I guess it makes my opponent wary of me,” he stated. “It’ll also be my first time fighting in Labasa.”
Hill won his first professional fight in the super middleweight division against Donasio Macedru in the Lewis Hill boxing promotions at Vodafone Arena, Suva last year. “I’m trying to improve my fitness in my preparation with the aim to win,” he said. “I was unfit in my last fight, but I got the job done.”
Hill noted he has gained some experience from his previous professional bout. “I will be gunning for the super middleweight title of Fiji after this fight and maybe the light heavyweight as well,” he remarked. “We’ll see whoever has the title, I’ll be going after them.”
