Rising Above: Ana Seru’s Inspiring Journey to Cadet Success

Ana Seru, a Year Nine student from the Raiwaqa area, was recognized as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park in Suva yesterday. Growing up in a neighborhood with significant social challenges, Ana’s experience fueled her commitment to academic excellence.

Throughout the week-long cadet training, she faced the humid weather while mastering various marching techniques, which she described as a demanding experience. “I was aware that my upbringing wasn’t ideal, but I aimed for success every time I entered the classroom,” mentioned the 14-year-old.

Ana emphasized that education is her key to a better life. “The only way to improve my situation is through education,” she stated, reflecting on her journey.

Having roots in Naivucini, Naitasiri, Ana highlighted the importance of making wise choices, particularly in navigating peer pressure, lessons instilled in her by her family. “Good decisions lead to positive results,” she noted.

She dedicated her achievement to her siblings and her father, who was present at the event. “I may be the introvert in the family, but I hope this recognition encourages my younger siblings to realize they can accomplish anything they aspire to,” Ana added. She also mentioned that her younger siblings, inspired by her performance, are eager to join secondary school and participate in cadet training.
