Rising Above: Ana Seru’s Inspiring Journey from Raiwaqa to Cadet Success

Ana Seru, a Year Nine student from Naivucini, Naitasiri, has emerged as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park, Suva, yesterday. Growing up in the densely populated Raiwaqa area, which is rife with social issues, has shaped her determination and drive for success.

Throughout the week of cadet training, Ana faced the challenges of humid weather while mastering marching techniques. “I knew my upbringing was not ideal, but I strived for excellence every time I stepped into the classroom,” the 14-year-old remarked. She emphasized the importance of education as a means to improve her life.

Ana also highlighted the significance of making wise decisions, especially in navigating peer pressure—a lesson instilled in her at home. She believes that good choices lead to positive outcomes.

She dedicated her award to her siblings and her father, who were present at the event. “I’m the introvert in the family, and I hope this award will inspire my younger siblings to believe that they can achieve anything if they set their minds to it,” Ana stated. Her younger siblings are currently in primary school and are eager to join secondary school and participate in cadet training after seeing her success.
