Ana Seru, a 14-year-old student from Naivucini, Naitasiri, has been recognized as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park, Suva. Growing up in the Raiwaqa area, which faces various social challenges, Ana’s experiences shaped her determination to succeed.
Throughout a week of cadet training, Ana faced humid conditions while learning marching techniques, which she found to be quite demanding. Despite the challenges, she emphasized the importance of education as a way to improve her circumstances, stating, “I had no other choice; the only way to improve my life is through education.”
Ana credits her strong decision-making skills, especially in resisting peer pressure, to the lessons she learned at home. She believes that making wise choices can lead to positive outcomes.
During the ceremony, Ana dedicated her award to her siblings and her father, who were present to support her. As the introvert in her family, she hopes her achievement will motivate her younger siblings to pursue their dreams, particularly as they express interest in joining secondary school and cadet training inspired by her performance.
