Ana Seru, a Year Nine student, made headlines as she was recognized as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park in Suva yesterday. Growing up in the densely populated Raiwaqa area, characterized by various social challenges, played a significant role in shaping her outlook on life.
At just 14 years old, Ana reflected on the week-long cadet training, noting the difficulties she faced, particularly due to the humid weather while mastering the marching techniques. “I recognized that my upbringing wasn’t perfect, yet I pushed for excellence in every classroom encounter,” she stated.
Residing in Naivucini, Naitasiri, Ana emphasized the importance of making wise choices, especially in navigating peer pressure, a lesson instilled in her from a young age. “Choosing wisely leads to positive results,” she remarked.
During the event, Ana dedicated her achievement to her father and siblings, expressing her hope that her success would motivate her younger siblings. “As the quiet one in our family, I wish this award inspires them to believe they can accomplish anything with determination,” she expressed. Her siblings, still in primary school, are now eager to pursue secondary education and participate in cadet training, inspired by Ana’s accomplishments.
