Fifty executive prefects have been chosen to join the 2025 student council at Tilak High School in Lautoka, with Epeli Rokotunidau named head boy and Kaliyyah Lalabalavu as head girl. At a recent induction ceremony, the new leaders conveyed their appreciation and acknowledged the responsibilities that accompany their roles.

Rokotunidau highlighted the council’s significance in leadership, stating, “This badge symbolizes leadership but more importantly, it gives a sense of collective responsibility to create a positive and inclusive environment for all.” He promised to be a collaborative leader dedicated to enhancing the school experience for everyone.

This induction reflects a wider trend observed in various schools across Fiji, where newly appointed leaders embrace their responsibilities with a strong sense of purpose. Their commitment mirrors that of Miriama Watikili and Mesake Cokanauto from All Saints Secondary School, who also expressed appreciation and a commitment to their peers. Such aspirations showcase the increasing recognition of student leadership as crucial in promoting positive school climates.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has previously underscored the significance of these leadership roles, noting their importance in helping young people navigate challenges such as peer pressure and bullying. This framework of support for young leaders in Fiji signals hope for a brighter future, fueled by their commitment and community backing.

As student prefects across Fiji step into their leadership roles, they embody resilience and ambition, serving as inspirations not only within their schools but also in their communities. Their dedication illustrates that through determination and support, they can drive meaningful change.
