The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) currently has a total personnel strength of 3,274, which includes both military personnel and civilian employees. This information was shared by Captain Lepani Vaniqi, the RFMF’s Director of Finance and Logistics, during his presentation to Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.
In his address, Captain Vaniqi highlighted significant improvements in the RFMF’s operational capabilities, particularly in the areas of human resources management and fixed asset tracking. He pointed out that the military is in the process of implementing a new human resources software system designed to enhance the management of personnel data. This initiative comes in response to challenges identified in the 2023 audit, where reliance on a manual system caused difficulties in keeping accurate personnel records.
The new HR software is expected to be fully operational by August 2025 and aims to automate data updates, facilitating easier access to personnel information for audits and management reviews. “Previously, the RFMF endeavored to create its own software, but encountered numerous obstacles. The new system is intended to ensure that personnel information is precise and accessible at all times for verification,” Captain Vaniqi remarked.
Furthermore, concerns were raised regarding the management of fixed assets within the RFMF. To address these issues, Captain Vaniqi confirmed the completion of a thorough inventory and stocktake of all assets and equipment located at RFMF camps and facilities, resulting in an updated fixed asset register now submitted to the Ministry of Finance’s Asset Management Unit.
In alignment with its five-year strategic plan, the RFMF has also established a temporary military joint logistics warehouse at Laucala Beach, which is expected to further enhance operational efficiency.
This proactive approach demonstrates the RFMF’s commitment to improving its administrative systems and accountability, reflecting a hopeful outlook for enhanced operational effectiveness in the coming years.
