RFMF Targets Sukuna Bowl Comeback After Seven-Year Drought

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) soccer team is gearing up to break a seven-year title drought as they prepare to challenge the Fiji Police Force for the prestigious Sukuna Bowl. After suffering a heavy defeat, losing 6-1 in last year’s final, the RFMF is focused and determined to reclaim their glory from 2018, the last time they lifted the trophy.

Team captain Epeli Saukuru expressed confidence in their preparations despite the absence of key player Christopher Wasasala, who is currently representing Fiji in Papua New Guinea. “We have a lot of new players this year, and we have been losing for six to seven years now. Our goal is to end that drought and come out victorious,” Saukuru stated, highlighting the internal motivation within the team.

The RFMF understands that they face a formidable opponent in the Fiji Police, who boast a lineup filled with national and experienced players. The RFMF players are committed to overcoming this challenge, aiming to perform at their best and exhibit their skills on the field.

Notable players to watch for the RFMF include Peniame Drova, Kolinio Sivoki, and goalkeeper Epeli Loganiceva. The enthusiasm is palpable, and the team is rallying not only around their mission to win but also to honor the support they’ve received from families and military personnel. Captain Saukuru extended an open invitation to supporters to join them in Labasa, as they strive for a memorable win.

The 2025 Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament is scheduled to take place between November 17-19 in Suva, culminating with matches in Labasa from November 20-21. This annual event promises a showcase of camaraderie and sportsmanship, bringing together different facets of the community within Fiji’s vibrant sports culture. As the competition approaches, anticipation builds not only for the fierce rivalry on the field but also for the spirit of unity it fosters among supporters and participants alike.
