As the Ratu Sukuna Bowl enters its third day, the RFMF Army Wives have successfully defended their Netball title, defeating the Police Wives in a narrow contest that ended with a score of 25 to 22 at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
In addition, the Army Servers 2 team achieved victory, overpowering Police Servers 2 with a score of 44 to 29.
Team Coach Seini Naigatogato expressed her gratitude toward the senior members of the Army Wives for their invaluable support in preparing the squad to retain their championship. She noted, “I thank the Army Wives Club for supporting the team this year. This year we had to bring some older players to share their experiences with the new members, and we hope to incorporate more new talent next year.”
Army Servers 2 Captain Venina Naigatogato commended her team’s impressive cooperation, which was crucial in overcoming last year’s champions, the Police Servers 2. She remarked, “I’m very proud of the girls for the effort they put in, especially since it was a tense competition. Through hard work and teamwork, we succeeded. Our thorough preparation made a significant difference today.”
In an emotional moment, Naigatogato dedicated their victory to all Army Servers stationed around the world, particularly honoring the memory of Late Private Lawanigusu, who tragically passed away from cancer the previous Thursday. “Today’s win is for every Server globally, especially for our comrade who left us. While we couldn’t attend her funeral, we honor her and her family with this victory,” she stated. She also expressed appreciation for the supporters who aided in their preparations over the course of the week.
The Ratu Sukuna Bowl Netball competition is scheduled to conclude today, celebrating the spirit of network and competition among military families.
This year’s Ratu Sukuna Bowl not only showcases the competitive spirit but also highlights the sense of community among the military families, reminding everyone of the connections and shared experiences that bind them together, especially during challenging times.
