The Rewa football team strengthened their chances of clinching the Digicel Fiji Premier League title with a solid 2-0 victory against Lautoka at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
In a remarkable display before their home crowd, midfielder Tetiva Waranivalu netted both goals from the penalty spot. The penalties were awarded due to mistakes made by Lautoka defender Antonio Tuivuna. In the first half, Tuivuna’s lackadaisical defense allowed Rewa striker John O’Robulu to break through, leading to a foul and a penalty that Waranivalu converted.
Tuivuna’s day worsened in the second half when he received a red card after fouling Rewa captain Setrakeki Hughes in the penalty area, resulting in Waranivalu scoring again from the spot.
Following this win, Rewa stands at the top of the league table with 37 points, followed by Labasa with 32, Lautoka with 28, Ba with 25, and Navua with 23. With only two rounds left in the season, Rewa requires just two points from their remaining matches to secure their second national league title.
Results from other matches include Rewa 2-0 Lautoka, Suva 4-0 Nadroga, T/Naitasiri 1-2 Navua, Ba 1-0 Nadi, and Labasa 2-0 Nasinu.
