Rewa has secured the 2024 Digicel Fiji Premier League title with a decisive 4-1 victory over Nadi at Prince Charles Park yesterday. The Delta Tigers entered the match with 37 points, needing only a draw to clinch the championship.

Captain Setareki Hughes gave Rewa the lead just before halftime, putting them ahead 1-0. Ten minutes into the second half, impressive winger Madhwan Gounder extended the lead to 2-0, finishing a counter-attack move.

Nadi’s performance faltered as their attack and defense succumbed to poor passing, lack of coordination, and concentration, reflecting their fitness issues. Rewa took advantage of these opportunities, with striker Iosefo Verevou adding a third goal from a penalty after a foul in the box. Substitute Delon Shankar later sealed the victory for Rewa with another goal, making it 4-0.

Nadi offered a brief reprieve for their fans with a stunning free-kick by Tuiba Batiratu, but it was merely a consolation. Rewa coach Rodick Singh praised his team’s determination, stating they deserved the victory after their hard work throughout the season.

He acknowledged the challenges faced during the season but emphasized their consistency, which has secured them a place in the OFC Champions League.

On the other hand, Nadi football president Mohammed Mohin Rafiq noted the absence of key players affected their performance on the field. With one round of competition remaining, the Delta Tigers now have 40 points.
