Rewa’s football coach, Rodeck Singh, remains confident about his team’s chances despite their convincing 3-0 victory over Labasa in the first round of the Pillay Garments Champions Champion match at Subrail Park. The match saw Rewa initially take the lead following an own goal by Labasa’s Lekima Gonerau after a powerful drive from Rewa’s Epeli Valevou.
Rewa continued to dominate the game, with Valevou scoring a second goal in the 60th minute and sealing the match with a third shortly after, leaving Labasa fans disappointed, many of whom chose to leave the stadium early.
Singh noted that while the victory was commendable, the team would return to the drawing board to prepare for their next encounter with the Babasiga Lions, aiming for zero errors in their gameplay. He highlighted that the rainy weather worked to Rewa’s advantage, along with the hard training the players have undergone.
Meanwhile, Labasa’s interim coach, Alvin Chand, remains optimistic about his team’s prospects. He mentioned that there is still a week to prepare for the next game against Rewa and is committed to assessing and addressing the mistakes made in the recent match. His confidence in the team suggests that they will come back stronger in the return leg set to take place at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori next Sunday at 3 PM.
With both sides geared for the next round, fans can expect an exciting rematch.
