Rewa Rugby Union has received a significant boost as they prepare for the 2025 Vanua Championship, securing a $5,000 apparel sponsorship from BLK Fiji. The partnership was officially announced during a signing ceremony in Nausori, establishing a collaborative relationship between the rugby union and the popular sportswear brand.
Petero Kaveni, secretary of Rewa Rugby Union, expressed his gratitude, stating that this sponsorship will greatly alleviate financial pressures on both players and officials. Previously, the union struggled to fund off-kit apparel, often requiring board members to dip into personal finances. The new agreement promises to enhance team motivation as they gear up for the upcoming season.
“This sponsorship is a great opportunity for us,” Kaveni remarked, emphasizing the expected improvement in the team’s defensive strategies due to enhanced apparel. He conveyed deep appreciation to BLK, particularly recognizing the contributions from key individuals who facilitated this deal.
Malakai Yamaivava, manager of the BLK Nausori branch, shared his excitement about partnering with Rewa Rugby Union for the 2025 season. Along with providing the apparel, BLK intends to support the union financially through merchandise sales, committing to donate 20% of all Rewa Rugby branded merchandise back to the union for operational expenses and development in the Rewa region. This initiative underscores the growing trend of sponsor involvement in local sports across Fiji, which has seen similar partnerships enhancing team operations and community engagement.
With this sponsorship, Rewa Rugby Union joins a broader network of clubs that are benefiting from increased corporate support, reflecting a positive trajectory for Fiji’s rugby landscape. As Kaveni noted, the collaboration is a step toward building a more sustainable future for rugby in the region, instilling greater community spirit and unity through the love of the sport.
