Rewa has secured the 2024 Digicel Fiji Premier League title with an impressive 4-1 victory over Nadi at Prince Charles Park.
Going into the match with 37 points, Rewa needed just a draw to clinch the championship. Captain Setareki Hughes gave Rewa the lead shortly before halftime, making the score 1-0.
Winger Madhwan Gounder, who played a crucial role throughout the match, extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal from a counterattack just ten minutes into the second half. Nadi’s performance faltered, marked by poor passing and coordination, which pointed to fitness issues within their squad.
Rewa continued to dominate as striker Iosefo Verevou converted a penalty after a foul in the Nadi box. Delon Shankar then capped off Rewa’s scoring with another goal during a breakaway, giving them a comfortable 4-0 advantage.
Nadi managed to pull one back with a spectacular free-kick from Tuiba Batiratu, but it served only as a consolation for the Jetsetters.
Post-match, Rewa coach Rodick Singh expressed pride in his team’s efforts over the season, emphasizing that they knew from the start it would be a tough league, but their consistency and hard work paid off. He noted that they have now qualified directly for the OFC Champions League due to the new league format.
Nadi’s president, Mohammed Mohin Rafiq, acknowledged that his team struggled without their full squad and experienced players during the match.
With one round of competition left, Rewa now has 40 points.
