Rewa captain and veteran defender Naomi Waqanidrola praised her team’s resilience and performance despite a challenging opening match against the formidable Ba side, ending with a 5-0 defeat. She emphasized the significant changes within the Rewa team this season, particularly with the introduction of several new players.
Waqanidrola noted that this was the first time the current squad played together in the IDC tournament. “We have a new team with new players coming in this season,” she explained. “The girls are blending in very well, and the bond in camp is strong. The morale is high, especially since many of these players come from the national team.”
She highlighted the potential impact of the players who participated in the recent U-20 World Cup, expressing optimism about their contributions to the club going forward. Looking ahead, Rewa is set to face Labasa today at 1 PM, followed by a match between Ba and Nadi at 3 PM.
This upcoming match against Labasa serves as an opportunity for Rewa to demonstrate their growth and resilience. With the support of their dedicated new players and a strong team spirit, hopes remain high for a positive turnaround in their performances in the championship series.
The IDC represents a significant platform for women’s football in Fiji, showcasing emerging talent and fostering community engagement. Despite the setback in their opening match, Rewa’s focus on team development and morale offers a hopeful outlook for their upcoming challenges.
