The Extra Supermarket Rewa football team has clinched the title of the Digicel Fiji Premier League. This victory was secured after the Delta Tigers defeated the home team Nadi with a score of 4-1 at Prince Charles Park yesterday.
Rewa’s main competitor for the top position in the DFPL points table was Labasa, who faced a setback with a 2-1 defeat to Ba.
Rewa’s head coach Roderick Singh expressed pride in his team’s achievement, stating that the players truly deserved the win.
“First and foremost, we thank God Almighty for providing us with the strength; it is through Him that we have achieved this,” Singh noted. “Last year Lautoka won the title. Now we are the new champions of the league, and I believe the boys earned it through hard work.”
He acknowledged the team’s journey throughout the season, recognizing the need to fight for the league title right from the start. “I appreciate the boys for their fighting spirit throughout the season. There were challenges along the way, but ultimately, we persevered and secured the title.”
Singh highlighted that despite various hurdles this season, their consistency was key to their success. “One positive aspect was the players’ consistency. This match was pivotal for determining our league win, and it has come to fruition. The league title returns to Rewa,” he remarked.
The match results from yesterday included Ba defeating Labasa 2-1, Lautoka losing to Suva 0-1, Nadroga triumphing over Tailevu/Naitasiri 4-1, Navua winning 1-0 against Nasinu, and Nadi falling to Rewa 1-4.
