The Extra Supermarket Rewa football team has clinched the Digicel Fiji Premier League title. This achievement came after the Delta Tigers triumphed over hosts Nadi with a score of 4-1 at Prince Charles Park yesterday.
Rewa’s main contender for the top position in the DFPL points table, Labasa, experienced a setback, losing 2-1 to Ba.
Rewa’s head coach, Roderick Singh, expressed pride in his players, stating they truly earned the championship. “Firstly, we thank God Almighty for giving us the strength; it was through Him that we have achieved this,” said Singh, who is known for his devout faith.
He noted that last year’s champions were Lautoka, emphasizing that his team deserves the title after a hard-fought season. “From the beginning of the year, we knew we had to fight to win the league. I thank the boys for their fighting spirit throughout the season. There were ups and downs before we finally secured the title.”
Singh acknowledged the challenges faced during the season, but highlighted that consistency was key to their success. “One of the positive aspects is the consistency of the players. This match decided our league victory, and it has happened; the league title returns to Rewa,” he added.
In other match results, Ba defeated Labasa 2-1, Lautoka lost to Suva 0-1, Nadroga won against Tailevu/Naitasiri 4-1, Navua beat Nasinu 1-0, and Rewa overcame Nadi 4-1.
