The Rewa Football Club is eager to shake off a five-year winless streak in the Battle of the Giants tournament as they prepare to kick off this year’s competition on Friday at Subrail Park in Labasa. The last time Rewa clinched the BOG trophy was in 2020, when they triumphed over Suva with a 1-0 victory at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

With the National Premier League temporarily halted, Rewa’s assistant coach Priyant Mannu has conveyed the team’s aspirations, stating, “Our ultimate goal is to win the tournament, but as a top team, we will take it game by game and see how far we can go.” This mindset highlights their focus on a strategic approach to each match rather than looking too far ahead.

The Delta Tigers, placed in Group B, will face tough opponents like Nadi, Navua, and Suva, all considered strong contenders. Mannu acknowledged the challenges ahead, remarking, “Every team is tough. The top eight teams qualify, and it won’t be easy playing against those sides with capable players and effective coaching staff.”

Rewa’s recent form also resonates with their strategic mindset. They’ve shown resilience this season, underscored by their 1-0 win over Ba in the Extra Premier League just last Sunday. This victory reflects their commitment and preparation leading into the BOG tournament.

This year’s BOG mark a significant return to Labasa after 23 years, promising to ignite excitement among fans and players alike. The community’s support is crucial, and with the tournament set to showcase local talent, each match serves to bolster the passion for football in Fiji.

As Rewa embarks on this tournament journey, hopes are high that they can reclaim their place at the top, inspiring fans and fostering a sense of unity within the community as they strive to achieve their goal of winning the prestigious trophy once more.
