Rewa FC’s Rocky Start: Can They Bounce Back in the OFC Champions League?

Rewa football team kicked off their 2025 OFC Men’s Champions League campaign with a challenging 4-2 defeat against AS Tiga Sport from New Caledonia in Honiara, Solomon Islands. The match was marked by several individual errors and discipline issues that left the team reeling, as coach Rodicks Singh expressed his frustrations in a post-match interview.

The encounter began with promise for Rewa, who initially pressed well but fell behind in the 14th minute after defender Leon Kofana was penalized for a foul in the box. Mickaël Partodikromo converted the resulting penalty, putting Tiga Sport in the lead. Things became increasingly difficult for Rewa when defender Kavaia Rawaqa received a red card in the 28th minute after an altercation with Tiga Sport’s Pierre Iewane, reducing them to ten men.

Despite this setback, Rewa managed to equalize through Epeli Valevou just two minutes later. However, their hopes of maintaining momentum were dashed when Gérald Waia scored again for Tiga Sport before halftime, putting them back in front at 2-1. The second half saw AS Tiga Sport extend their lead with two more goals from Gutacene Wadra and Jythrim Upa. Rewa’s John Orobulu managed to score in the 72nd minute, but it was too late to alter the outcome.

Looking ahead, Rewa’s next match against AS Pirae promises to be crucial for their ambitions in the tournament. Coach Singh emphasized the need for their players to improve their discipline and error management going forward, highlighting the importance of preparation in hopes of turning their campaign around.

Rewa FC’s history reflects their resilience, having reached the semifinals in the previous season. Their passionate fan base remains supportive and hopeful that the team can learn from this experience and bounce back in subsequent matches. This tournament represents a significant opportunity for Rewa to develop and showcase their talent on an international stage, inspiring future generations in regional football. As they regroup and prepare, there remains optimism that a stronger performance against AS Pirae could set the tone for a comeback in the competition.
