Rewa FC’s Resilient Fight in OFC Champions League Opener

Rewa FC’s journey in the 2025 OFC Men’s Champions League began on a challenging note as they faced AS Tiga Sport from New Caledonia, ultimately suffering a 4-2 loss in their opening match held in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Coach Rodeck Singh acknowledged the difficult circumstances following a red card issued to defender Kavaia Rawaqa in the 28th minute, which left the Fijian team with ten players for most of the match.

Despite the setback, Rewa displayed resilience. They initially equalized shortly after the red card, with Epeli Valevou scoring a goal that showcased the team’s fighting spirit. However, AS Tiga Sport regained their lead by halftime, ending the first half at 2-1. Further goals from Tiga Sport in the second half increased the scoreline, although Rewa managed another goal by John Orobulu in the 72nd minute.

Singh expressed his satisfaction with his players’ efforts despite the defeat, emphasizing that discipline would be essential moving forward in the tournament. “I’m happy with the boys’ efforts… They wanted to at least draw a point out in this game, that’s something positive,” he said. This match marks a starting point in their campaign, offering valuable lessons and experiences as they prepare for their next match against AS Pirae on Wednesday at 1 PM.

Rewa FC’s recent history underscores their potential; they reached the semifinals last year, having lost to AS Pirae in a tight battle. As they regroup for future matches, both the coach and the fans remain optimistic, hopeful for improved performances that could lead to successes later in the tournament. This campaign is not just about overcoming immediate challenges; it presents an opportunity for growth and development in regional football, serving as an inspiration for fans and future players alike.
