Rewa Football Club is gearing up for a critical match against Nadi in round 17 of the Digicel Fiji Premier League, with the league title at stake. Head coach Roderick Singh emphasized the significance of the upcoming game, stating that a victory could potentially secure the championship for Rewa this season.
After a strong 2-0 win over Lautoka in round 16, the team has only two matches left to clinch the 2024 title. Singh expressed confidence in the team’s preparations while acknowledging the challenges faced during the previous week with two important games on the horizon.
In his comments, Singh noted that the players have managed well during demanding training sessions, recognizing the high stakes involved in the fight for the league title. “The preparations are going well. We are coming off a tough week, and with two games remaining, we are in intense training, aware that the league is on the line,” Singh said.
He highlighted the importance of the match against Nadi, stating, “If we win this game, we surely win the league, so it’s crucial for us to dig deep to ensure the league stays with Rewa this year.” Singh pointed out the need for ongoing improvement, especially in game management and seizing scoring opportunities.
The coach noted that the team must put in a strong performance against Nadi, focusing on enhancing finishing skills and tightening defensive play to counter the opponent’s threats. He emphasized, “With two games left, we are determined to win the national league and play well against Nadi.”
Despite facing two injuries within the squad, Singh assured that the team is evaluating the situation to finalize the best lineup for the match against Nadi. “We have two injuries, but we are assessing them to see who will make the lineup for this match,” he said.
Singh acknowledged Nadi as a tough opponent, noting their talented young players and past successes in competitions like the Battle of the Giants. “Nadi will be challenging; they have young players and performed well in the Battle of the Giants, so it will be an exciting match,” he remarked.
Key players, including William Valentine and Tuibaba, were identified by Singh as vital assets capable of making a significant impact in the upcoming game. He has also urged Rewa’s dedicated fans to come out in support at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
The match is set to kick off at 3 PM on Sunday. Additionally, round 17 will feature other matchups on the same day, including Nadroga facing Tailevu Naitasiri at Lawaqa Park at 2 PM, Navua hosting Nasinu at the Uprising Sports Centre in Deuba at 2 PM, Ba battling Labasa at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba at 3 PM, and Lautoka competing against Suva at Churchill Park.
