The Extra Supermarket Rewa football team has claimed the title of the Digicel Fiji Premier League. This victory was secured after the Delta Tigers defeated the home team, Nadi, with a score of 4-1 at Prince Charles Park yesterday.
Rewa’s main competitor for the top position in the DFPL points table was Labasa, which faced a setback with a 2-1 loss to Ba. Rewa’s head coach, Roderick Singh, expressed his pride in the team’s achievement.
“We thank God Almighty for granting us the strength, as it is through Him that we have succeeded,” said Singh, reflecting on their journey. “Last year, Lautoka was the champion, but now we are the new winners of the league. The boys truly deserve this win as they fought hard.”
Singh mentioned the team’s understanding from the start of the season that they needed to put in the effort to win the league. He also acknowledged the unwavering fighting spirit of his players throughout the season.
“Despite facing many challenges, it was our consistency that kept us in the race,” he noted. “This match was crucial in determining the league winner, and we achieved our goal. The league title has returned to Rewa,” he emphasized.
The results from the matches were as follows: Ba 2-1 Labasa, Lautoka 0-1 Suva, Nadroga 4-1 Tailevu/Naitasiri, Navua 1-0 Nasinu, Nadi 1-4 Rewa.
