The 2025 Battle of the Giants football tournament has gained significant momentum with Extra Supermarket stepping in as its major sponsor. Announced by the Fiji Football Association, the partnership is seen as a pivotal support for the tournament, according to Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel, who noted that this sponsorship will enhance the event’s capacity to unite fans and celebrate the local community in Labasa.

“This collaboration comes at a crucial time, ensuring that the tournament not only features top-tier competition but also serves as a celebration for our community,” Patel remarked. This sponsorship continues a fruitful partnership initiated earlier this year, where Extra Supermarket has been actively involved in supporting various national leagues across all levels of Fijian football.

The upcoming tournament will bring together the top eight teams from the Extra Premier League to compete at Subrail Park, promising an electrifying atmosphere for local fans eager to see their team strive for glory, especially after Labasa’s recent victory in the 2025 BiC Fiji FACT.

Moreover, the tournament’s return to Labasa after more than a decade underscores its importance to the local area, projected to boost community spirit and local tourism. Paul Jaduram, president of the Macuata Tourism Association, has emphasized the potential economic benefits that come with hosting notable sporting events, expressing confidence in Labasa’s capacity to attract visitors.

In addition, the local football team’s coach, Ravneel Pratap, sees this event as a fantastic chance for his team to reclaim the title they lost earlier this year. Preparations are underway to enhance the playing field with new installations, including over $40,000 spent on floodlights, showcasing a clear commitment to improving facilities.

Overall, this surge of support from local businesses, the government, and sports organizations highlights a collective drive to foster sports tourism and community engagement in Labasa, promising to leave a lasting positive impact on the region. With the tournament launch set to occur today, the excitement in the air is palpable, marking a hopeful chapter for both local football and the vitality of the community.
