Revolutionizing Water Management in Nadi and Lautoka

The new $8.34 million Nagado water treatment plant will benefit 38,810 households in Nadi, according to Minister for Public Works, Transport, and Meteorological Service, Ro Filipe Tuisawau.

Ro Filipe recently visited new government-funded project sites in the west.

“The new water treatment plant incorporates the latest technologies, enabling processing and critical data to be monitored from Lautoka and Suva,” Ro Filipe said.

“The significance of updated technologies is that they assess the amount of water required,” he added. “Having updated technologies in water monitoring is essential, as it captures data to provide a clear understanding of water usage for households, farms, or industries. This allows for better planning moving forward.”

Ro Filipe emphasized that with limited resources, it is crucial to match development with available resources to avoid future environmental problems.

Ongoing construction work on the pipeline from Varaqe to Saru in Lautoka, as well as the ongoing construction of the Nagado Water Treatment Plant to Nadele, Nadi, are projected to be completed by December this year.

“In the Nadi and Lautoka areas, various developments such as hotels, industrial areas, subdivisions, and others require water,” Ro Filipe said. “That’s why we need to approach all developments sustainably.”

He stressed the importance of balancing development needs with resource availability, stating, “It is critical to balance developments.”
