The new $8.34 million Nagado water treatment plant will benefit 38,810 households in Nadi, according to Minister for Public Works, Transport, and Meteorological Service, Ro Filipe Tuisawau.
Ro Filipe was in the west visiting sites of new government-funded projects.
“The new water treatment plant incorporates new technologies where processing and critical data can be monitored from Lautoka and Suva,” Ro Filipe said.
“The importance of updated new technologies is that it evaluates the amount of water that needs to be used.”
“It is very important that we have updated technologies in water monitoring and that data is captured to provide a clear idea of how much water we are using for households, farms, or industries, allowing us to plan accordingly for the future.”
“As we understand, resources are limited, and whatever development we undergo must match the resources we have so that we don’t face huge environmental problems in the future.”
There is ongoing construction work on the pipeline from Varaqe to Saru in Lautoka, as well as the ongoing construction of the Nagado water treatment plant to Nadele, Nadi. These projects are expected to be completed by December this year.
“In the Nadi and Lautoka areas, given the developments that are coming up—not only hotels, industrial areas, subdivisions, and other developments—water is required,” Ro Filipe said.
“That is why we need to look at all developments in a sustainable manner.”
“How much water can we extract, and the number of developments must match the availability of resources we have, whether it is water, land, or other resources.”
“It is critical to balance developments.”
