“Revolutionizing Pediatric Heart Care: Generous Gift Transforms Hospital Services”

The children’s ward at CWM Hospital has received a valuable addition in the form of a state-of-the-art Echo machine, gifted by the International Women’s Association (IWA).

This advanced piece of equipment, valued at $101,297, will be instrumental in the early detection and treatment of congenital heart defects and rheumatic heart disease in children.

Judy Compain, the president of IWA, noted during the handover ceremony that the machine was part of a wish list provided to the association last year.

“This Echo machine represents not just advanced medical technology but also the collective goodwill and compassion of a community dedicated to the wellbeing of its youngest members,” Ms Compain stated.

Key donors included Haroon Ali, chairman of the Association of Banks, who contributed $50,000, and Susan Kumar, the acting Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, who donated $20,000.

Their efforts, along with contributions from others, facilitated the acquisition of this vital equipment.

The hospital’s capacity to perform detailed heart scans will be significantly enhanced by this machine, enabling early detection and timely intervention for various heart conditions.

This development is expected to benefit more children, who previously had to be referred to other hospitals or clinics for such services.

Mr. Ali praised IWA’s credibility, recognizing the importance of proper fund utilization.

“We believe that IWA is a very credible organization, especially under Judy’s leadership, ensuring that the funds are used effectively,” Mr. Ali commented.

Ms. Compain emphasized the role of community and collaboration during the ceremony.

She remarked that the handover was about more than just delivering a machine; it was about the strength of community and teamwork.

“This Echo machine represents hope, healing, and the promise of a healthy future for our children,” she said.
