“Revolutionizing Maternity Care: Inside Fiji’s All-Female Birthing Team”

Pacific Specialist Healthcare’s birthing facility in Nadi is reporting outstanding success for all its patients. The hospital encourages expectant parents to explore reviews and comments on platforms like Facebook and TikTok to witness the joy expressed by new mothers and fathers regarding the birth of their children.

The PSH Obstetrics and Gynaecology facility is under the leadership of Dr. Tui Taoi, a prominent obstetrician and gynaecologist in Fiji. The birthing team exclusively consists of female nurses and nursing assistants, ensuring the utmost privacy for expectant mothers.

Parvish Kumar, the director and Chief Executive Officer of PSH, mentioned that this all-female staff approach has received positive feedback from many mothers and support from fathers. He highlighted, “These mothers thank us for doing this. After giving birth, they enjoy private rooms that feature a television, lounge suite, and beverage-making facilities, designed to provide a five-star hotel-like experience.” He also noted that fathers are welcome to stay with their wives during their hospital stay, which is encouraged.

Recently, Kumar expressed satisfaction with the decision to operate the Nadi branch of PSH Hospitals 24 hours a day, noting an increase in patients requiring urgent medical attention at night. He reported a surge in cases from travelers seeking immediate care for issues like asthma, food poisoning, fever, and sudden abdominal pains.

The hospital’s affordable consultation fee of $11.50 has greatly helped the public access healthcare. PSH is exploring options to offer these services for free, with foreign companies being approached for collaboration.

Kumar emphasized that PSH Hospitals’ goal is to enhance health services, promote universal health coverage, and address societal healthcare challenges. He mentioned that numerous patients have benefited from free services, illustrating that private hospitals aim to alleviate pressure from public systems by providing advanced and quicker treatment options.

“PSH Hospitals is a different breed of hospital; come talk to us, and you will realize that empathy is at the heart of PSH Hospitals,” Kumar stated. Patients can consult general practitioners for just $11.50, whether during regular hours or emergencies.

He assured that medical procedures are available at competitive rates, and the facility offers a variety of procedures to all, including those unable to pay upfront. Furthermore, installment plans are available for major procedures under specific conditions, with a reminder for patients to honor their financial commitments.
