A local bakery business is making significant strides in community development and supporting local livelihoods through its operations. Tevita Loga, a 56-year-old entrepreneur, runs the bakery named Three T’s located in Naruwai, Dama, Bua.

Since launching a month ago, the bakery has been actively engaged in serving the community, benefiting from a strong local demand. The business has proven to be well-received, particularly among residents in the Dama area, where there is a high turnover of customers.

Loga, along with his wife, is dedicated to expanding their operational capacity to help locals. “Our bakery business is just getting off the ground here in Dama, and it’s a significant opportunity for the other villages as we aim to make connections,” he stated.

He noted one key factor for establishing the bakery was to cater to the community, especially given their location far from a major town, which makes access to baked goods challenging for residents.

Approximately 130 families reside in the nearby villages, driving a strong market for the bakery’s offerings. The community is enthusiastic about the bakery, which provides easier access for those traveling long distances to purchase essential goods.

During the past three weeks, there has been noticeable growth in sales as community members continue to support the bakery despite some initial challenges with product availability. The bakery’s products include cream buns, cheese buns, pizza, coconut rolls, and cakes.

Loga emphasized the importance of providing quality service and growing the business sustainably, highlighting the need for ongoing community support and engagement to overcome challenges they might face operationally.

The presence of similar businesses in Nabouwalu indicates a rising local market, though there is a recognition of limited variety in baked goods in the region. The government has shown interest in nurturing such small local businesses to stimulate economic growth within communities.

Loga encourages local youth to focus on sustainable work practices and to remain dedicated to their personal and professional development, believing this will contribute positively to their lives in the long run.
