Revolutionizing Healthcare: Pacific Specialist Healthcare to Launch DNA Library

Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) is planning to establish a DNA library to store samples for future use. This was announced by PSH director and chief executive officer, Parvish Kumar, at the fifth MultiDisciplinary (Pacific) Conference held in Nadi yesterday at the Crowne Plaza Fiji, Nadi Bay Resort & Spa.

“We are planning to set up a DNA library. Our aim is to take consent from parents and collect samples from the umbilical cords of newborns to store in a lab,” Mr. Kumar stated. “In the future, if parents or anyone needs samples of the child’s DNA, it will be available in Fiji,” he added.

He also mentioned that they are preparing to offer open-heart surgical procedures in the next two to three weeks. “Our entire open heart surgical team is currently in Fiji, conducting revitalization exercises and testing all the systems.”

“We are planning to commence open-heart surgeries around August 2-13. Once these services are available in Fiji, Pacific islanders will not need to go elsewhere. If there is another pandemic and border lockdowns, our patients can still access these services in Fiji,” he explained.

Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) is located in Legalega, opposite the Nadi International Airport. It holds the title of the largest private hospital in the South Pacific.
