The Health and Medical Services Ministry in Fiji has introduced the Sova Ni Bula app, marking a significant leap forward in managing healthcare and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) within the country. The app’s official launch was led by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Luisa Cikamatana, who pointed out that the name “Sova Ni Bula,” meaning “Basket of Life,” aptly reflects the app’s mission to enhance the health and well-being of Fijians.

During the event, various stakeholders, including Suakane Kentaro from JICA and Michael Glees from USAID, voiced their support for the new platform. They emphasized its potential to assist healthcare professionals in effectively managing NCDs, thereby reducing patient wait times and elevating the quality of care provided.

Developed in partnership with TaiwanICDF, USAID, JICA, and other collaborators, the Sova Ni Bula app is currently being piloted in four health centers, with plans to improve healthcare efficiency, outcomes, and equitable access to medical services. Notable features of the app include offline capabilities, GIS-powered health trend tracking, and an intuitive user interface.

This initiative brings a hopeful outlook for Fiji’s healthcare system, as it combines technology with existing healthcare practices to create a more effective response to public health challenges. The collaborative efforts of various organizations and the government’s commitment to innovation in health can pave the way for a healthier future for the people of Fiji.
