The newly launched Sova Ni Bula app signifies a significant step forward in healthcare and the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Fiji. This initiative, introduced by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, aims to enhance the health of Fijians significantly.
Dr. Luisa Cikamatana, the Chief Medical Officer, officiated the launch and emphasized that the name “Sova Ni Bula,” which translates to “Basket of Life,” encapsulates the app’s objective of improving community health.
Key partners in this initiative, including Suakane Kentaro of JICA and Michael Glees of USAID, expressed enthusiasm for the platform, highlighting its capacity to assist healthcare workers in managing NCDs, reducing waiting times, and elevating the quality of care provided.
Developed in collaboration with TaiwanICDF, USAID, JICA, and other contributors, the app is currently being piloted in four healthcare centers. It is designed to promote improved healthcare delivery, better patient outcomes, and enhanced equitable access to health services. Notable features of the app include offline functionality, GIS-powered tracking of health trends, and a user-friendly interface.
