Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has officially launched its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, providing an innovative treatment option for chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The launch event took place in Nadi and was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad.

The 24/7 availability of the Hyperbaric Chamber aims to enhance recovery rates and notably decrease the necessity for amputations, a critical issue in Fiji due to the alarming rates of diabetes-related complications. Professor Prasad emphasized the urgent need for change, noting that Fiji experiences one amputation every 12 hours, primarily caused by non-communicable diseases, particularly diabetes.

“This launch is a significant advancement in our efforts to better health outcomes and limit amputations,” stated Prasad. He also mentioned that the new HBOT service is not only aimed at Fijians but is expected to attract patients from other Pacific Island nations, thus reinforcing Fiji’s role as a leading healthcare provider in the region.

The HBOT treatment is anticipated to hasten recovery processes and enhance patient outcomes, contributing positively to the overall health of the population. Professor Prasad remarked that the introduction of this advanced service reflects Fiji’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure.

In conjunction with the HBOT announcement, Professor Prasad launched the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program, which provides healthcare service discounts for active cane growers in Fiji. This initiative is designed to ensure that farmers have access to affordable healthcare, showing the government’s commitment to improving health services accessibility in rural areas.

Additionally, he highlighted ongoing government efforts to modernize healthcare facilities, including the development of a 100-bed super-specialty hospital funded by the Indian Government and upgrades to the CWM Hospital.

By prioritizing advancements in healthcare infrastructure and introducing state-of-the-art treatments, the government aims to foster a healthier future for all citizens of Fiji. With the addition of HBOT services and the SCGF Loyalty Program, PSH is positioning itself as an innovator in healthcare, striving to provide leading-edge treatments and better support for the well-being of Fijians.

This launch not only enhances local healthcare options but also opens avenues for medical tourism, showcasing Fiji’s potential as a hub for advanced healthcare services in the Pacific. Overall, this development represents a hopeful step towards improved health outcomes for many in the region.
