Revolutionizing Critical Care: New ICU Opens in Fiji

Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital in Legalega Nadi is advancing healthcare innovation with the launch of its new three-bed Intensive Care Unit. This facility is designed to serve critically ill patients in the private sector within the Western corridor.

The unit will also support critically ill tourists needing multi-organ support, advanced intensive care, stabilization, and preparation for medical repatriation to their home countries. Dr. Ratu Vereniki Raiwalui, a staff consultant intensivist and anaesthesiologist at the hospital, stated that this service will complement the perioperative and surgical services already offered.

Additionally, the new development includes vital open-heart off-pump services. In the past two weeks, PSH Private Specialists’ Hospital also introduced 24-hour General Practitioner services to local communities in the Western corridor, extending to hotels and outlying islands in Yasawa and Mamanucas.

The hospital provides a range of services including emergency support, elective surgical procedures, perioperative anaesthetic care, advanced diagnostic services, cardiovascular services, interventional cardiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, with plans to add ophthalmology and pediatric services soon.

Director Parvish Kumar emphasized the hospital’s goal to expand its specialist tertiary and quaternary services, aiming to become the leading provider of patient-focused care in Fiji and the Pacific Islands. Clinical Director Dr. Sanson F. Fousaga highlighted that the hospital also offers specialist medical referral services to patients across the Pacific Islands. The provision of intensive care services will enhance medical retrieval services for these island partners, granting them access to high-level specialist care at PSH Specialist Hospital.
