Fijians requiring heart bypass surgeries can now save over $25,000 by choosing local treatment options at Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH), which has recently introduced this crucial service in Fiji. This new initiative aims to provide advanced cardiac care closer to home, thereby eliminating the financial burden of traveling abroad for treatment.

Kusum Lata, a 56-year-old resident of Lautoka, became the first patient to undergo open-heart surgery at PSH. She successfully completed the four-hour procedure on Monday, having previously been directed by Lautoka’s Aspen Hospital to seek surgery in India, which would have cost her approximately FJ$54,000. In contrast, the cost of the procedure at PSH was significantly less—under a quarter of that amount.

Parvish Kumar, founder and CEO of PSH, stated that the launch of local cardiac surgeries represents a transformative advancement for healthcare in Fiji and the broader Pacific region. “This achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of our surgical team,” Mr. Kumar noted, emphasizing that this development enables patients to receive top-tier cardiac care in a familiar environment, surrounded by their loved ones, and at drastically reduced costs.

The surgical team at PSH consists of professionals trained in leading international healthcare institutions, ensuring high levels of clinical quality. “The first open-heart surgery at PSH is a culmination of 15 months of diligent planning, investment in advanced technology, and cross-collaboration among our medical teams,” Mr. Kumar remarked. He expressed that this initiative serves as a “beacon of hope” for cardiac patients across the Pacific region.

PSH is committed to implementing strict pre- and post-operative protocols, striving for a 100% success rate while fully integrating skilled Fijian nurses into the surgical process. Mr. Kumar praised their contributions, stating, “Our Fijian nurses performed excellently, ensuring comprehensive care during the surgery.”

This advancement not only enhances access to essential cardiac care within Fiji but also fosters a healthier community within the region.

In summary, the establishment of local cardiac surgeries at PSH marks a significant milestone in accessible healthcare for Fijians, allowing them the opportunity to receive quality treatment close to home while saving on the associated costs of overseas travel. This uplifting development connects patients with their healthcare providers in a supportive setting, reinforcing the value of local services in the healthcare landscape.
