Revolutionary Water Treatment Plant to Transform Nadi Region

The new $8.34 million Nagado water treatment plant is set to benefit 38,810 households in Nadi, as announced by Minister for Public Works, Transport, and Meteorological Service, Ro Filipe Tuisawau.

During his visit to new government-funded project sites in the west, Ro Filipe highlighted the advanced technologies incorporated in the new water treatment plant, which allow for the processing and monitoring of critical data from Lautoka and Suva.

“The new water treatment plant utilizes updated technologies to assess the necessary water usage,” Ro Filipe explained. “It is crucial to have these technologies to monitor water usage and capture data accurately. This helps in planning for water use across households, farms, and industries effectively.”

Emphasizing the importance of resource management, he added, “Resources are limited, and any development must align with available resources to avoid future environmental issues.”

Current construction projects include the pipeline from Varaqe to Saru in Lautoka and the Nagado Water Treatment Plant to Nadele, Nadi. These are expected to be completed by December.

Ro Filipe noted the necessity for careful planning given the extensive developments in Nadi and Lautoka, which include hotels, industrial areas, and new subdivisions.

“We need to approach all developments sustainably,” he said. “We must evaluate how much water can be extracted and ensure that developments match our available resources, whether water, land, or any other resources.”

“It is critical to balance developments and resource availability,” he concluded.
