Revolutionary Reforms Unveiled for Civil Servants: Details Inside

The government, with assistance from the Australian government, has implemented reforms for civil servants. This was disclosed by Finance Minister Biman Prasad in Nadi in response to a question from Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry chair Dr. Ram Raju regarding wage increases for civil servants.

Dr. Raju inquired about how the government plans to enhance activities for civil servants with the wage increase. In response, Minister Prasad emphasized the importance of ensuring the well-being of civil servants.

Minister Prasad highlighted that substantial budgets allocated to various ministries often go unused. He pointed out the need for effective planning and implementation, particularly in addressing environmental issues like water supply for Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. He stressed that ministries such as public works and lands need to coordinate to deliver these services systematically.

Using the health ministry as an example, Prasad noted that despite a significant budget allocation last year, the utilization was poor, resulting in delays in medical consumables delivery and service provision. He assured that the government expects civil servants, including permanent secretaries and ministers, to deliver services as per the allocated budgets.

Furthermore, Minister Prasad revealed that plans are underway to establish a training institute for the civil service.
