The new termite monitoring device, iTracker Pro, is designed to gather data on homes infested with active termites, according to Sashi Kiran, co-chairperson of the Termite Taskforce. Kiran spoke at the launch of Flick Hygiene Services’ first baiting program at an infested property on Lovu Crematorium Rd, Lautoka.
Kiran explained that the device provides real-time data visualization, allowing for a detailed graph to be generated for each affected home. “We will be able to collect significant data, and by monitoring a thousand houses currently being addressed, we can gather enough research material to guide education efforts in tackling this issue in other areas,” she noted.
Additionally, Kiran expressed optimism that Flick Hygiene would make their termite control products accessible to those who can afford them. The goal is to encourage widespread baiting efforts in Lautoka to reduce the overall termite population.
Flick Hygiene Services managing director Mohammed Tazim outlined that the extermination process would take approximately six to eight weeks. The initial steps include identifying active termite areas and installing bait systems. “The termites will consume the bait and transport it back to their colonies,” Tazim explained, stating that the team would return in two weeks to check and replenish the bait before making subsequent visits.
He assures homeowners that by the end of the sixth to eighth week, the termite colonies affecting their properties should be eliminated.
