A Starlink Internet and Telecom cloud phone has been successfully installed at the Nasau Health Centre in Nalawa, Ra, marking a significant enhancement in healthcare connectivity for the region. Telecom Fiji announced that this development would greatly benefit over 4,000 residents across 19 villages and 18 settlements, addressing a critical need for communication access.

Prior to this installation, the Nasau Health Centre lacked internet connectivity and reliable mobile service, forcing staff and community members to trek uphill for 30 minutes just to find a mobile signal. This difficult situation made it challenging to make urgent emergency calls, send medical reports, and maintain daily communications.

With the new connection, the health centre can now instantly contact Rakiraki Hospital in emergencies, send essential reports efficiently, provide internet access to community members, and enable health workers to reach the centre via a designated Telecom Cloud Call number. This advancement is expected to streamline healthcare services significantly.

The project was made possible through the tireless efforts of the Nasau medical area’s community and hospital board members, who conducted fundraising initiatives to enhance connectivity. Their dedication and collaboration have considerably improved healthcare services in the region, showcasing the positive impact of community involvement on public health.

This development not only improves healthcare delivery but also fosters stronger connections within the community, promoting well-being and support among its residents. Overall, it reflects a hopeful step towards greater accessibility and improved health outcomes for the people in the area.
