Reviving Touch Rugby: Join the Fleming Roosters Tournament!

The Fleming Roosters Touch Rugby revival tournament is set to take place at the St Thomas Primary School grounds in Lautoka on September 28, with 10 spots available for men’s teams. Misa Rokovua, a committee member, shared this information during an interview with SUNsports.

Rokovua mentioned that the entry fee for each team is $100, and as of now, only two teams have confirmed their participation, although they have not yet paid their registration fees. The tournament aims to bring back touch rugby to Lautoka and provide meaningful engagement for local youth.

“We want these youths to be occupied with the sport of touch rugby to prevent them from drugs, clubbing, and petty crimes,” Rokovua stated. He encouraged individuals, particularly those without a team, to join in for what is expected to be a family fun day.

The organizing committee is currently seeking sponsors to help fund the tournament, as most financial support is raised through their own initiatives. “It’s quite challenging, but we get whatever we can from the boys in the fundraiser. Getting teams to participate is a challenge for us as well,” Rokovua added.

Furthermore, the committee is looking to include a Police team in the tournament to help raise awareness about the ongoing drug crisis among the youth in the country.
