Reviving Touch Rugby: Join the Fight Against Youth Crime!

The Fleming Roosters Touch Rugby revival tournament is set to take place at St. Thomas Primary School grounds in Lautoka on September 28, with 10 spots available for men’s teams. Misa Rokovua, a committee member, shared this information in an interview with SUNsports. The entry fee for each team is $100.

Currently, only two teams have confirmed their participation, though neither has submitted their registration fee. Rokovua emphasized the importance of the tournament in promoting touch rugby in Lautoka, stating, “We want these youths to be occupied with the sport of touch rugby to prevent them from drugs, clubbing and petty crimes.”

He also extended an invitation to anyone interested in joining the tournament, particularly those who may not have a team, highlighting that it will be a family fun day as well. Rokovua mentioned that the organizing committee is actively seeking sponsors, as the majority of funds for the tournament are raised through their efforts.

“It’s quite challenging, but we get whatever we can from the boys in the fundraiser. Getting teams to participate is a challenge for us as well,” he added. In an effort to address the drug crisis among the youth, Rokovua expressed a desire to include a Police team in the tournament to raise awareness.
